Welcome to MetaFruit, neighbor!!
"There are so many things to learn about in this world and so many people who can help us learn. Isn't that wonderful?" - the late Mr. Rogers. Here are some efforts of mine in jamming on that note. ;D
It's tough to fully quit a utility-like service such Facebook because so many of your freinds use it.
The problem is: quitting is the average person's way of telling a company they disagree with their product or practices. Steve Jobs famously said, "it's simple - you vote with your wallet". But that logic doesn't apply to monopolistic services that package your friends as the product.
This project will explore other options of exercising consumer-power to steer big firms.
Since most of the projects here at MetaFruit are browser plugins... a newsletter helps because:
1.) Chrome lacks a versioning system for extensions, meaning users don't know when or why their software updates! (Google, please fix this!)
2.) Some Firefox users turn extension updating off by default (smart!), but this means they don't get software updates without knowing to do something.
3.) Every so often, another project ripens up and falls from the tree. You'll be the first to know! ^.^
